Tirana, 3 November 2017

Western Balkans Fund (WBF) Secretariat presented today the staff, completed after the evaluation and selection process.

At the ceremony organized on this occasion in the WBF premises in Tirana, the Executive Director Dr. Gjergj Murra, underlined that a group of experienced professionals from our region are ready to contribute actively for the achievement of the Fund’s objective: supporting joint projects of Civil Society, aiming to strengthen people-to-people contacts and overall regional cooperation processes.

During the event, the new staff members, coming from Belgrade, Podgorica, Prishtina, Skopje and Tirana, had the opportunity to introduce themselves, underlining their full readiness and willingness to contribute for achieving the WBF goals.

Ambassadors from the region and European Union countries, officials from the Albanian Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, European Delegation in Tirana and media, were present at this ceremony. Dr. Murra thanked the V4 and WB6 for their continuous support for this initiative and expressed the confidence, also on behalf of WBF staff, for the continuity of such support in the future, as well.

As the first all-inclusive and regionally owned initiative, the Fund’s main objectives are to boost cooperation between its members, to strengthen relations and regional cohesion, to advance integration into the European Union. It will be done by promoting common values among citizens, civil society organizations and regional actors, by strengthening and providing a concrete approach at the “people-to-people” level.

WBF will finance small and medium projects with the main objective of increasing regional and cross-border cooperation, and strengthening regional cohesion in these key areas:

  1. Education and Scientific exchanges;
  2. Cultural cooperation;
  3. Cross-border and youth cooperation;
  4. Sustainable Development;

The first Call for Proposals will be launched within November.
