On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we reaffirm a simple truth: regional cooperation is only real when it is accessible to everyone.
At the Western Balkans Fund, we have seen first-hand that disability is not an obstacle to regional cooperation. On the contrary, when persons with disabilities lead and participate in cross-border initiatives, they transform our region for the better.
From the “Theatre for All” project in Banja Luka, to the adaptation of museums for people with hearing disabilities in Podgorica and other cities of our region, to the “Basketball for All” initiative in Skopje and many more, we have directly supported regional cooperation by and for people with disabilities.
These are not just good examples in our portfolio. They are among the very best projects we have ever funded, initiatives that combine inclusion, creativity and a genuine regional impact.
That is why, today more than ever, we remain firmly committed to ensuring that our programmes, calls and partnerships are open and accessible to everyone, without exception.
Regional cooperation belongs to all of us – or it means nothing at all.
