In 2026, the Western Balkans Fund will provide an unprecedented number of funding opportunities for organizations, both well-established and grassroots; for gender equality initiatives; and for individuals, including young leaders, researchers, doctoral students, and more.
The list of grant schemes open this year includes:
Opportunities for Organisations
Grant for Grassroots Initiatives
The flagship Call for Proposals of the WBF, open to all organizations, NGOs, associations, and more (check eligibility), will open in mid-March.
GGI will fund projects of up to €15,000.
Empowering Regional Cooperation Grants
Co-funded by the European Union, the largest support scheme provided by the WBF will open in autumn.
WBF Matching Grants
Supporting the conversion of local projects into regional initiatives, this scheme is open all year round, with a grant limit of €10,000.
Gender Equality Fund Grants
Supporting gender equality projects, this scheme will open for the first time in May 2026.
Opportunities for Individuals
WBF Move Grants
WBF Move Grants support the regional mobility of individuals. The next call is foreseen for late spring–early summer 2026.
Western Balkans – Visegrad Fellowship
Supports doctoral students and graduates with fellowships of up to 10 weeks in the four V4 countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia).
The scheme is run in cooperation with the International Visegrad Fund.
