The Western Balkans Fund is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic death of H.E. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan (2006-07 and 2012-20).
Today, we mourn a friend, a visionary and a world leader deeply committed to peace and reconciliation in the World and the Western Balkans.
Under H.E. Abe tenure, Japan launched the “Western Balkans Initiative” in 2018. This mechanism enabled Western Balkans Fund and other important stakeholders to shape a better future for the Region. The Civil Society Summit and FIRE Conference against hate speech and discrimination are part of that mechanism.
Thanks to H.E. Abe our World and our Region are a safer and better places to live.
